Lil Wayne‘s lyric notebook from 1999 (the Hot Boys era) is officially up for grabs again, carrying a huge price tag after a lengthy legal battle over its ownership finally ended earlier this year.
According to TMZ, the notebook is now being offered for large sum of $5 million, a significant increase from its initial $250K listing five years ago.
The company handling the sale, Moments In Time, justified the steep markup by stating Wayne is one of the greatest rappers of all time, meaning his handwritten lyrics from when he was 17-years-old are extremely valuable.
Nonetheless, the price isn’t the only intriguing aspect about all of this. Moments In Time made headlines back in 2019 when they attempted to sell the notebook on behalf of a man who claimed he found it in a car once owned by Cash Money Records.
Tunechi strongly objected, demanding the return of his work. His legal team sent a cease and desist letter to Moments In Time, arguing that the company had no right to sell the lyrics, as well as accused the man who found the notebook of fabricating Tune‘s story. Also, waiting for the perfect opportunity to profit from it.
The man, however, fought back, citing “finders-keepers” and asking the court to declare him the rightful owner. Despite the controversy, Weezy did not respond in court, leading to a ruling against him.
So there you have it Wayniacs, if you have $5 million spare, you can purchase a piece of hip-hop history!
