Disappointing news! The NFL has announced Kendrick Lamar as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show, set to take place at the Caesars Superdome in Lil Wayne‘s hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana on February 9th.
Over the past year during interviews with YG, Rolling Stone, Undisputed and Taylor Rooks, Wayne has openly expressed his desire to perform at Super Bowl LIX, revealing the importance of a NOLA artist taking the stage for such a massive event and why the opportunity would mean so much to him.
Deion Sanders also showed support earlier this year by tweeting his hopes for Weezy to be a part of the event: “I fully expect @LilTunechi to be apart of the @NFLSuperBowl 2025 in New Orleans. Thank u in advance. Much Love, CoachPrime.”
Additionally, Tunechi‘s longtime engineer and current manager, Fabian Marasciullo, voiced his frustration on Instagram, saying: “Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all, inspired. Will never again have the [GOAT] in a position where we are at the mercy of someone else’s decision. We will make the decisions.”
Master P echoed these sentiments, congratulating K Dot but also questioning the NFL and JAY-Z (who helps choose the performer) as to why Tune, a New Orleans native, wasn’t included:
“Salute to @KendrickLamar for performing at the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX. Well deserved, he’s one of the hottest artists in the world and has one of the biggest songs right now. As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans I have to agree with the fans that @LilTunechi #LilWayne should be a part of this celebration as well. He’s one of the greatest Hip Hop artists alive, still relevant and he’s a New Orleans native. Let’s not miss this cultural moment in the South. Besides, life is too short! We have to give our legends their flowers while they are here. @MasterPMasterClass #Godisgood Change starts with us. @NFL @JAYZ @MayorCantrell”
How do you feel about this, Wayniacs? Do you think Kendrick will invite Lil Wayne to perform “Mona Lisa” during the halftime performance? And if so, do you think Mr. Carter would agree to join him?
Furthermore, Lil Wayne wants to make it very hard for the #SuperBowl to not call him to headline it in New Orleans next year! 🐐🔥 — Lil Wayne HQ (@lilwaynehq_2) February 9, 2024
