Cordae recently sat down with Billboard News’ Catrise J for a one-on-one interview to promote his new album, The Crossroads.
At the 3:25 mark in the video below, Cordae opened up about his collaboration with Lil Wayne on “Saturday Mornings“.
The Raleigh rapper shared how the collab came together, revealing he initially had a completely different song to that beat. After rewriting it, he texted the updated version to Wayne, who sent back his verse a couple of weeks later.
Also, Cordae recalled listening to “Saturday Mornings” on repeat for three hours straight while driving, explaining why he thinks he and Tunechi have great chemistry. He even called Tune a G.O.A.T. and said the following about which beats he sends to him:
“Me being such a Wayne fan, I know what beats that I love to hear him on. I love hearing Wayne on soul beats, growing up… literally I’m just sending him songs that I think he would sound dope on, as a fan.”
Later in the interview (11:00 mark), Cordae shared a piece of advice Weezy gave him: “Humble yourself and treat every song as if nobody’s heard of you before”.
