Cordae recently joined Anthony D’Aliesio and Luca Guerini on the NFR Podcast to promote his new album, The Crossroads.
At the start of the interview, Cordae talked about the “great advice” Lil Wayne gave him, which was to humble himself and treat every song like it’s someone’s first time hearing him.
Around the 22:45 mark, Cordae broke down the hook for “Back On The Road“. He even explained why he believes Tunechi is the G.O.A.T. and shared Tune‘s reaction to this DJ Drama/Gangsta Grillz/Dedication-inspired bar:
“This dedication, boy, I want the drama too; And I ain’t gangster, dog, but I’ll grill a n*gga and step over you like Tyronn Lue”
The North Carolina rapper also revealed a true story behind Wayne‘s lyric: “My n*gga just had a daughter, I just went bought her a stroller”. Cordae confirmed Weezy actually sent him a Fendi stroller the day after hearing he had a daughter.
Later in the conversation (37:50 mark), Cordae revealed that Mr. Carter has been the most challenging artist to rap alongside. He also mentioned that he didn’t pay Lil Wayne for his features and how he loves hearing Wayne on soul samples.
