Mannie Fresh recently sat down with DJ Self and Gray Rizzy on Apt. 5H, where he covered a range of topics including Lil Wayne, New Orleans slang, The LOX, JAY-Z’s appearance on the “Ha” remix, and his early career.
During the interview, Mannie shared a story about how Cash Money Records‘ iconic single “Project B*tch” came to life. According to him, the idea came from a line Turk had dropped in a previous verse. However, when it came time to record, Turk wasn’t available, so Juvenile stepped in and handled the hook.
The legendary producer also touched on Tunechi‘s unmatched work ethic. He says Tune was always the first to arrive and the last to leave the studio, which he credits as the reason for Wayne‘s success today.
Furthermore, Fresh discussed Mr. Carter ensuring he had a role in “Back That Azz Up,” Bun B’s original involvement in Big Tymers, and the “silly” beef between B.G. and Turk. He even reflected on Cash Money’s 30th anniversary, Weezy‘s absence from their ESSENCE Fest performance, and more.
